Conny's Story
  due date: August 21, 2002

I just came across this website tonight and felt that I might feel some relief in all this by sharing my story with other moms out there who are experiencing the same worries and fears as I am. This is my 2nd pregnancy, and
I expected things to go pretty much like the first one. My son is 19 months old now, and we were so happy to get pregnant again, a baby brother for our son. At 20 weeks, we had the first ultrasound for this pregnancy, and I was
told that the placenta was a little low, partially touching the cervix. Like many of you have said, I was told not to worry, that as I got further along into the pregnancy, that it would move up. They told me this at that first ultra- sound, and my doctor told me this as well. Today, I had my 2nd ultrasound to check the baby's size (I was told I was measuring a little bit small), and to check on the placenta's placement as well. After having a vaginal
ultrasound, I was told that the placenta is STILL touching the cervix and that I will have to have a C-Section. She mentioned the word "marginal," but I was so shocked and upset and just trying to keep myself together, as my husband and son were outside, I know I can't clearly remember word-for-word everything she said. She mentioned that I would have to have a C-section because if I tried a vaginal delivery, it would burst some blood vessels and I could hemmorhage, the baby could lose blood, and so that is why a C-section is best.  She also mentioned that she was surprised it hadn't moved, because "most of them do." I asked her if it was likely to move in the next few weeks, but she said no, that at 32 weeks it doesn't seem likely. But it is encouraging to see
some stories where it has moved, even from a complete PP. She told me to keep my feet up and no heavy lifting, and that they would send my results priority to my doctor. I called my doctor's office and spoke with one of the kind nurses there. I didn't mention the word "marginal" to her, but told her that Ihad PP.   She spoke with my doctor and advised me to not pick up my 19 mo. old more than I have to, no intercourse, no heavy duty housework, and no driving long distances or too much, just when necessary. There are so many different things I have read tonight, and I feel so scared that something might go wrong during delivery, even with the c-section. And I feel scared to even do anything, because if I start bleeding and things go wrong, I feel like it's all my fault. Also, we had wanted to try again next year for a baby girl, but now I don't know if we should if we will be putting a new baby at risk because of this problem. So many things to worry about. I just pray that our baby boy
will make it through this healthy and happy, and that my son will get to meet his new baby brother in a happy setting. Thanks for listening and I will keep reading other stories and updates to see how you all are doing with your PP pregnancies. Good luck to all and! I'll pray for you.

Update:  10/13/03

The previa corrected itself at 37 weeks and we had a great delivery of our baby boy, Kieran! =)

Teresa's Story
Hello, my name is Teresa and i am looking for anyone who may have been a placenta previa/accredia with invasion to the bladder wall, or who may know something about it. When i was pregnant with my last child i was diagnosed with previa. At 6 mo's i started going into labor so my doc put me in the hospital. They couldn't stop it so they transported me to IU Med. in Indianapolis. Once i was there they found out through an MRI that i was still
a previa and that my placenta came out of my uterus, one end grew into my bladder and the other into my uterus. They kept me in the hospital on magnesium sulfate for several weeks and then changed to tributaline. During
this time they gave me steroids to develope my baby's lungs so i could delivery early. They had told me that i was the 12th or 13th person in medical history for this to happen to. At 35 wks! they took her by c-section and left
the placenta inside (due to it being attached to my bladder and uterus) and did wkly chemo to kill the placenta. Finally 4 mo's later after going thru the chemo, 2 d&c's and 1 s&c they got the majority of the placenta. At the time of delivery they did a tubal because of the risk of this happening again. In Dec. of last year i had a hysterectomy (leaving my ovaries and tubes) due to severe pain & terrible bleeding.

 Sincerely,

 Teresa Bonewitz

Mandy's Story

due date:  05/18/03

I had some spotting during my 12th week. My doctor send me for an u/s. I was diagnosed with complete placenta previa. The radiologist predicted that the placenta was not likely to move up, and my doctor shared his opinion. I had another u/s at 19 weeks. First, the technican told me that it looked like a low lying placenta. But as we were finishing up the sono, she looked at the placenta again and said that since my bladder was full now that it looked like a complete previa. My doctor has told me that it is a complete placenta previa, but it is too close to call right now. She has scheduled another u/s at 28 weeks to confirm previa at this stage. I am slighty confused because they were so sure at 12 weeks that the placenta was not migrating and it was a complete previa, how come they are having some doubts right now, despite the fact that I have complete previa.
I have not found out the sex of the child. The baby seems to be doing fine.  It was moving a lot during both the ultrasounds.  I have not had another incident of bleeding. I am 20 weeks pregnant right now.

Update:  10/13/03

I had another ultrasound at 32 weeks, and I still had a complete previa. Around 37 weeks, I had an amnio to check for fetal lung maturity. The baby's lungs were well developed, in fact, his sufractant level was 75. If it is around 55, doctors think that the lungs are matured. After the amnio, my doctor monitored me in my office. I did not have any contractions, and I was scheduled for a c-section the next day. However, when I got home I started feeling a lot of contractions, but I thought that they were just braxton-hicks contractions. As my luck would have it, I started bleeding at night. We rushed to the hospital, and I had an emergency c-section. My son was born absolutely healthy, he weighed 61/2 pounds and was 19 inches long. He is 5 months old now. He is a big boy, and it is wonderful to be a mother.  When I was pregnant, I felt very angry with god. I often wondered why do I have to go through such a difficult pregnany as this was my first pregnancy. I found out that there was a 1 in 1500 chance of having previa in first pregnancy. I was only 29 when I got pregnant. But now I feel that as long as the end result is fine -- if you have a healthy baby -- nothing else matters.

Herman's Story

 due date: * 18-10-2002 + 19-10-2001

Our little princes Kayleigh died as a result of Vasa Previa. By breaking my wives water a bloodvessel was hit and our helpless girl bleeded to death. Our loss and grief is big. After a week I tried to search for an answer. I trieded to find out who's responsible for her death. My strong girl fought for her life more then 14 hours.

After two weeks I realised that if she survived she would be badly handicapped, mentally and physically, but at that moment it didn't seem to matter. Her blood pressure was too low, and did not reached more than a 30/16.  Those 14 hours were the most badly of my life.  After transferred to an other hospital it seemed that my wife only could be
following the morning after. I was very worried that she could not be there on time. But after two hours I got the message that she was brought over within 30 min.

On the 19 of oktober at 05:15 in the morning our Kayleigh died.
